Woodlands Teacher Samuel Washington, Jr. Honored for Excellence in Education

Woodlands High School science teacher Samuel Washington, Jr. was honored this weekend by The Westchester Alliance of Black School Educators for his contributions to the Greenburgh Central School District and Greenburgh community. Mr. Washington was in good company at the recognition ceremony, which honored four other Black educators in Westchester County. The five recipients were identified through peer review.

“I feel incredibly honored and humbled by this recognition,” said Mr. Washington. “Sometimes, as a teacher, the impact of our work can go under the radar until years after a student has graduated. I’ve had former students come back after 20 years to thank me for how much I did to prepare them for life after high school. To be honored in real-time makes it come alive.”
